Abby’s Shiver Shack is a local shaved ice business founded by Abby DeJarnette in 2017, beginning as a modest trailer run by a passionate eighth grader with a big vision. Over the years, it’s evolved into a full food truck, once a Red Cross vehicle, now transformed into a colorful and welcoming brand serving the High Country community. The visual identity was designed to reflect the business’s cheerful, nostalgic energy with playful colors, bold typography, and hand-drawn elements that speak to the joy of summer treats and friendly service. This brand is all about creating fun, memorable experiences, one snow cone at a time
Working alongside Haley Brock, the new identity aims to capture the nostalgic charm of summertime while giving the brand a fresh, modern edge, celebrating its growth from a simple trailer to a community-favorite food truck. The goal was to create a visual system that feels playful, inviting, and rooted in the joy of shared summer traditions.
Inspo behind the design
Inspired by the brand’s roots in nostalgic summer traditions and joyful community moments, the new logo keeps the playful spirit of the original while refining it for a more cohesive and memorable identity. A key element, the polar bear mascot, was especially meaningful to founder Abby DeJarnette, and it remained central to the refreshed design. Friendly, hand-drawn typography pairs with bright, energetic colors and subtle retro influences, capturing the excitement of childhood summers and helping Abby’s Shiver Shack stand out as a local favorite in a growing market.
Through a series of meetings, Haley and I worked closely with Abby to understand her goals and the challenges of the existing branding, which lacked consistency and visual cohesion. Our shared objective was to develop a refreshed identity that honored the business’s roots while also being more scalable, polished, and practical for future use. What we created is a bright, approachable brand system that preserves the charm of the original while giving Abby’s Shiver Shack the visual tools it needs to grow, celebrating its beginnings while looking ahead to the future.
